IADC WellSharp Introductory Level

The purpose of this course is to provide drilling personnel with the basic understanding of well control. They will also be provided with the basic understanding of how primary well control is maintained, what the indicators are, and how to regain the primary well control if it has been lost.

By completing this course the course participant will be able to:

  • Understand the negative consequences associated with loss of well control
  • Understand the need for kick detection
  • Recognize the warning signs of abnormal pressures
  • Understand the actions that should be taken when kick indicators are present
  • Correctly obtain shut in pressures and parameters
  • Be able to select well control method to regain control
  • Fill in a surface and subsea kill sheet
  • Perform basic well control calculations
  • Explain functions of various well control equipment
  • Obtain sufficient knowledge to pass a written IADC WellSharp test with minimum 70% score
