Maritime education programmes in Chennai

Second Mate (FG)

The Second Mate FG course covers essential parts of the education and training required under Regulation II/1 and aims to meet the standards of competence specified in Section A-ii/1 of the STCW 2010 as amended. The programme is directed at seafarers from deck department with 18 months sea-time.

Content

The Second Mate FG programme covers: Navigation Cargo work Ship construction and stability Ship safety and environmental protection

Objectives

The objectives of this course are to prepare a candidate to appear for the examinations of Second Mate of the Certificate of Competency as Second Mate of a foreign going ship.

17 weeks

  • Obtain confirmation of receipt/acceptance of booking in person/e-mail
  • The balance fee may be paid on the date of arrival for the course
  • The seats are booked on first come first served basis
  • Last date of submission of application would be the Thursday preceding the date of commencement of the course
  • If the person does not report/pay the requisite fee, one day before start of the course, the seat may be offered to those on Wait List.

Chief Mate, Phase 1

The Chief Mate Phase I programme covers essentiual parts of the eduaction and training required under Regulation II/1 and aims to meet the standards of competence specified in Section A-II/1 of the STCW 2010 as amended.

The programme is directed at seafarers from deck department with 12 months sea-time as second mate of a foreign going ship.

The Chief Mate Phase I programme covers:

  • Terrestrial and celestial navigation
  • Meterology
  • Cargo work
  • Ship stability
  • Ship construction
  • Ship safety emergency maintenance and management

Objectives

The objectives of this course are to prepare a candidate to appear for the examinations of Chief Mate Phase I of the Certificate of Competency as Chief Mate of a foreign going ship.

14 weeks

The Chief Mate Phase II programme covers essential parts of the eduaction and training required under Regulation II/1 and aims to meet the standards of competence specified in Section A-II/1 of the STCW 2010 as amended.
The course is directed at seafarers from deck department with 12 months sea-time as second mate of a foreign going ship who have already completed the Chief Mate Phase I course.

Content

The Chief Mate Phase II programme covers:

  • Ship construction ans ship stability
  • Maritime legislation
  • Bridge watch keeping, ship handling and emergencies
  • Navigational aids
  • General engineering knowledge

Objectives

The objectives of this course are to prepare a candidate to appear for the examinations of Chief Mate Phase II of the Certificate of Competency as Chief Mate of a foreign going ship.

11 weeks
