
STCW Elementary First Aid
To give the participants basic knowledge and skills qualifying them for:
- Lifesaving first aid
- Ordinary first aid in emergency situations
- Evacuation situations onboard ships
Course Content
Upon completion of the course, participants will have obtained basic knowledge plus skills on:
- The four main points of first aid onboard a ship
- The human needs for oxygen
- A-B-C principles
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and practice exercise
- Drowning
- Recovery position
- Hypothermia and treatment
- Bleeding and shock
- Burns and electric burns
- Fractures of bones
- Head and spine injuries
- Stretchers, transport and evacuations
Course Objectives
- To use the four main points of first aid onboard a ship
- Understand the theory about lifesaving first aid
- In practices give cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use recovery position
- Understand the symptoms of bleeding and shock
- Use of different dressing and bandage
- Understand the theory about hypothermia and demonstrates the treatment
- Understand the theory about burns, fractures, head and spine injuries and demonstrate the treatment in practice
- Recognize the hazard of transporting a patient with injury of pelvis or spine as well as demonstrate the correct procedures for evacuating of such casualties
