To give an understanding of safe rig move and jacking operations for jackups in theory and practice. Practical exercises will be completed in an advanced motion platform jacking simulator.

"The course integrates theory with practical simulator training, covering the following areas: ā Introduction to types of jack-up units and types of legs (cylindrical, truss) and their advantages/disadvantages ā Manoeuvring principles of self-propelled and non-self-propelled barges ā Follow and understand the Marine Operational Manual (MOM) procedures and limits ā Basic jacking system components: chords, shock pads, guides, rack fixation systems and greasing ā Pin and yoke jacking system basics ā Rack and pinion system ā Braking types, resistor banks, purpose and importance of Torque equalization ā Introduction to Rack Phase Difference (RPD): description, causes, and measurement ā Introduction to jetting and raw water systems ā Power sources and introduction to Basics of Power Management System ā Planning of rig moves including risk assessment, environmental limitations, basic meteorology and stability considerations ā Manoeuvring concepts for 3 & 4 leg Barges ā Seabed and soil properties, seabed surveys, and hazards (mud, clay, silt, gravel, sand, punch-through) ā Preloading strategy and procedures; principles of safe hull elevation ā Simulator-based rig moves, including soft pinning and preloading practice with theory"
