Introduction to Stability Level 2

The Offshore Stability & Ballast Control (Stability 2) course provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the stability principles and ballast control operations specific to column-stabilized floating units. It equips participants with the knowledge and skills required to assess stability, manage ballast operations, and respond effectively to environmental forces and damage conditions. This course complies with the IMO requirement A1079(28) for the selection and training of Ballast Control Operators.

Course Content

Who is this for?

This course is ideal for: - Offshore personnel involved in advanced ballast control and stability management, including Ballast Control Operators. - Professionals working on self-elevating platforms (Jack-Ups) or other MOUs who need to perform advanced stability calculations.

Prerequisites

Completed the Stability Theory (Stability 1) course or have equivalent foundational knowledge in stability principles. - Experience in offshore stability management or ballast control is recommended.

Assessment Type

Participants must pass a written examination and practical exercises to demonstrate competency in advanced stability and ballast control operations.

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Maersk Training Stability Theory (Stability 2) certificate, compliant with IMO, USCG, UK, and international regulations.

Advanced Stability Calculations

Learn to perform complex stability calculations, including the use of advanced hydrostatic data for stability assessment. - Understand the impact of free surface effects, trim, and heeling moments on stability.

Ballast Control for MOUs:

Explore the operation of ballast systems for self-elevating platforms and other MOUs, including advanced ballast management techniques. - Develop skills in ballast configuration and tank monitoring for safe offshore operations.

Free Surface Effects:

Analyze the impact of free surface effects on vessel stability, understanding how to manage tanks and cargo to minimize risks. - Learn to calculate free surface corrections and incorporate them into overall stability assessments.

Trim and Heel Calculations:

Gain expertise in calculating trim and heel for different loading and ballasting conditions. - Understand how to correct trim and heel to maintain stability during various operational phases.

Damage Stability and Emergency Response:

Develop skills in assessing stability in emergency situations, including damage to the vessel or changes in loading. - Learn procedures for emergency ballast operations and stability recovery.
