Introduction to Testador de Gás Autorizado

Who is it for?
This training is designed for personnel who are preparing to take on the role of Authorized Gas Tester, professionals responsible for carrying out atmospheric testing (oxygen, flammable and toxic gases) before and during entry into confined spaces. It is suitable for operators, technicians, supervisors and safety professionals working in the oil and gas, maritime and industrial sectors.
Course content
Confined Spaces and Legislation
Confined space definitions, limited entry and exit, applicable legislation and associated regulations, including NR-33, NR-01 and NR-06.
Safe Systems of Work
Risk assessment, hierarchy of control, ALARP, isolation certificates, Permit to Work, supervision, Toolbox Talks, standby personnel and rescue planning.
Gas Hazards and Characteristics
Oxygen deficiency and enrichment, inert and toxic gases, H2S, exposure limits, LEL/UEL, flash point, auto-ignition, gas behaviour, density and purging.
Atmospheric Testing
Gas detector types, calibration, bump testing, pre-use checks, ventilation, gas-testing sequence, sampling, response time, interpretation and continuous monitoring.
Respiratory Protection and PPE
Escape sets, SCBA, airline breathing apparatus, filter respirators, PPE selection and pre- and post-use inspection requirements.
Practical Activities
Gas detector pre-use checks, completion of the Gas Test Certificate and inspection of respiratory protective equipment.

LO2 - Explain safe systems of work for confined space entry, including risk assessment, isolation, Permit to Work, standby person duties and rescue planning.
LO3 - Describe gases that may be present in confined spaces, including their characteristics, behaviour, exposure limits and effects of overexposure.
LO4 - Carry out atmospheric testing for oxygen, flammable and toxic gases, including detector checks, ventilation, sampling, interpretation and continuous monitoring.
LO5 - Identify respiratory protective equipment and PPE used during gas testing, including their limitations and inspection requirements.
