Introduction to Basic Methanol Fuel Operations

This course provides basic competence for personnel serving on board ships using methanol as a fuel. It supports safe operations by developing awareness of methanol fuel characteristics, associated hazards, and the required safety and emergency response behaviours expected of shipboard personnel who may be exposed to methanol fuel systems or operations. Through practical application, the participants will be equipped with skills necessary for managing dual fuel systems and executing bunkering operations safely.

The course is aligned with international methanol competence frameworks such as IMO Generic interim guidelines on training for seafarers on ships using alternative fuels and new technologies (MSC.1/1621), DNV-ST-0687, and MTJTTF Basic Training Framework and Instructor Handbook for Methanol, Ammonia, And Hydrogen as Marine Fuel.

Essential Information

Prerequisites

Attendees must be medically fit to participate in all aspects of the training, particularly the practical exercises. They must possess IGF Code basic training.

Who is it for?

Designed for shipboard personnel who may: • work in areas where methanol fuel is stored/handled, • participate in, support, or stand watch during methanol-related operations, and/or • have designated safety duties in relation to methanol fuel operations.

Assessment

There is an assessment at the end of the training.

Certification

At the end of the training you will receive a Maersk Training certificate.
