Introduction to Basic Safety and Emergency Preparedness Refresher for Emergency Response Personnel
The course refreshes and further develops the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for active emergency response personnel, with focus on sea survival, evacuation methods, risk and barriers, survival equipment and helicopter evacuation.
The same competence requirements apply to both the Standard and Blended delivery options.

Prerequisites
Participants must have completed Basic Safety Training and be an active member of an HLO or Search and Rescue Team. The prerequisite requirements depend on the selected delivery option: Face to Face Delivery: No additional pre-course learning. Blended Delivery: Participants must complete the required e-learning before attending the practical training. A link to the required e-learning will be provided before attendance.

Who is it for?
Offshore personnel undertaking Basic Safety Refresher training who are active members of one of the following emergency response teams: Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO) Search and Rescue Team

Assessment
Participants are assessed throughout all practical training. If a participant does not successfully complete the practical training, the reason for the assessment outcome will be provided.

Certification
Upon successful completion, you receive a certificate valid for 4 years.
Course content
Sea Survival
Practical sea survival activities, including survival suits, water familiarisation and remaining safely in the water.
Liferafts
Practical use of liferafts during offshore emergency and evacuation situations.
Emergency Alerting
Relevant alerting and communication actions during offshore emergencies.
Evacuation Chute
Practical use of an evacuation chute as an emergency evacuation method.
HSE
Health, safety and environmental considerations, including risk awareness and safety barriers.
Helicopter Evacuation
Practical HUET exercises, including water familiarisation, inversion and organised evacuation.
Emergency Breathing System
Practical use of the emergency breathing system integrated with the survival suit.
Key Learning Objectives
LO1 - Use relevant evacuation and lifesaving equipment during offshore emergency situations.
LO2 - Identify relevant risks and safety barriers associated with offshore emergency response.
LO3 - Use a survival suit with an integrated emergency breathing system correctly.
LO4 - Demonstrate appropriate actions during helicopter evacuation exercises.
LO5 - Apply practical sea survival techniques during emergency situations.
