Requirements

Copy and original (for checking) or certified copy that prove:

Non Seaman

• Being over eighteen (18) years of age on the day of the enrollment.

• Good physical and mental health conditions.

• Have completed the Course Basic Safety at Platform (CBSP) in the last five (5) years.

Seaman

• Valid certificate, less than five (5) years of Basic Training in Security and Instruction (TBS/I).

• Declaration (original and dated, with signature and readable full name), attesting the CPSO realization will be only to obtain the equivalence with EPSM; and, in case of embarkation in UOM/platform, must perform obligatorily the CBSP.

• Seaman’s Book (Caderneta de Inscrição e Registro – CIR) which presents your personal information with photo.

Course Intro

• In the lectures, instructional resources appropriate to the content will be used, especially models and replicas related to the human body.

• Practical nursing demonstrations.

• The reading of appropriate manuals, books and texts will be encouraged.

• The practical parts of the subjects will be carried out in areas properly prepared with: individual equipment for each student; prepared instructors and monitors; event security; on-site support and assistance. Students should be advised on safety and appropriate clothing for practical classes.

• First aid concepts.

• Basic steps in first aid.

First Aid Practice

• Soft tissue lesions.

• Trauma-orthopaedic lesions.

• First Aid Kit.

• Vital Functions.

• Vital and support signs.

• Cardiopulmonary Arrest (CRA).

• Hemorrhage.

• Burn.

• Intoxication.

• Circulatory alterations.

• Foreign bodies.

• Transport of victims.

Health Management

• Health management on board.

• Nursery management on board.

• Pharmacy management on board.

Course Objectives

• Provide the student appropriate knowledge for first aid treatment.

• Assistance on board, according to Table A-VI/4-1 of STCW-1978 Code and amendments.

• Provide the student specific first aid knowledge and practice for injured and sick people on board.

• Provide the student health management, nursery and pharmacy knowledge on board.
