Introduction to Combined Search & Rescue and Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO) Refresher
This combined refresher course maintains and further develops the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for personnel serving in search and rescue and helideck emergency response functions, with strong emphasis on practical training and exercises.

Prerequisites
Participants must have completed: HLO Basic Course Search and Rescue Team Basic Course Personnel who have not served in an emergency response role and have not completed emergency response training or equivalent training within the last 5 years must complete the relevant basic course again.

Active members of the following emergency response teams: Search and Rescue Team Helideck Crew

Assessment
Participants are assessed throughout all practical training. If a participant does not successfully complete the practical training, the reason for the assessment outcome will be provided. Participants who do not demonstrate achievement of the required competence objectives will not successfully complete the course.

Certification
Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate valid for 2 years

Emergency Preparedness
Emergency response organisation, roles and responsibilities during emergency situations.
First Aid
Practical first aid relevant to emergency response activities.
Patient Assessment
Systematic assessment of injured or affected persons during an emergency.
Fire Theory
Principles of fire behaviour, prevention and firefighting.
Firefighting Media
Selection and use of appropriate firefighting media.
Firefighting Equipment
Practical use of relevant firefighting and emergency response equipment.
Firefighting and Containment
Containment Practical methods for extinguishing and containing fires.
Physiology
Physiological considerations relevant to emergency response and breathing apparatus use.
Breathing Apparatus
Use of compressed-air and other breathing apparatus during emergency response.
Search and Rescue
Practical search and rescue activities, including operations in smoke-filled environments.
Pressurised Gases and Liquids
Hazards associated with gases and liquids under pressure during emergency situations.
Mental Reactions and Stress
Recognition and management of mental reactions and stress during accidents and major emergencies.
Rescue During Fire
Practical rescue activities during fire and smoke-related emergencies.
