Course overview

This three-day course equips wind industry professionals with advanced first aid skills for handling complex medical emergencies in remote environments. Building on basic first aid, it prepares you to:

Provide prolonged emergency care and manage serious injuries
Handle severe trauma, cardiac events, hypothermia, and other critical conditions
Coordinate effectively with medical services and emergency response teams

Through realistic simulations, you’ll gain hands-on experience in assessing, treating, and stabilizing patients until professional help arrives. This training meets Global Wind Organisation (GWO) standards, ensuring you’re prepared for emergency situations on both onshore and offshore wind farms.

Prerequisites

Participants: Shall have created a personal profile in WINDA and provided their WINDA ID. Will be medically fit, well-rested & show no signs of fatigue, sickness or substance abuse.

Who is it for?

Personnel who will be working in the wind industry or related fields, and who will have duties to fulfil in a wind turbine environment, as well as usually being in physical contact with a wind farm environment or an offshore wind structure make up the target group. Personnel that are selected by their employer to perform enhanced first aid onshore or offshore, where training according to the GWO Enhanced First Aid training may enable them to react to incidents and thus mitigate the results of casualties deriving from the identified risks.

Assessment

Participant knowledge, skills and abilities should be assessed on an ongoing basis during practical scenario-based exercises, by means of direct observation and verbal questioning. The instructor should use this as a method of formative evaluation to support participants in reaching the module objectives. The instructor shall also utilise direct observation and verbal questioning on an ongoing basis through the training, to determine participant achievement of the required learning objectives in the domains of knowledge, skills and abilities, to support the overall summative evaluation of the module.

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a GWO Enhance First Aid certificate, which is valid for 2 years and recognized worldwide in the wind energy sector
