4 days of face-to-face training, including both theory and practical assessments.

How long is the certification valid?

GWO High Voltage Operations is an enduring qualification. Participants are expected to progress to HV authorisation within about 3 years while working under supervision. If this is not achieved, retraining may be required by company or local rules. Once authorised, repeating the course is not normally expected.

Is the registration fee included?

Yes, the course fee includes registration and certification through WINDA.

What meals and refreshments are provided?

Complimentary lunch and refreshments are provided on-site each day of the course.

Can I take the refresher course if my original certification has expired?

No. If your certificate has expired, you must retake the full High Voltage Operator course.

What equipment should I bring to the practical session?

All personal protective equipment (PPE) and tools required for the course are provided. Please bring suitable workwear (long-sleeved sweatshirt and long trousers) and safety shoes.

Essential Information

Prerequisites

Participants attending this training must possess underpinning knowledge, skills, abilities in safe low voltage electrical working. They must have the capability to perform tasks while exposed to low voltage hazards and risks and have electrical workplace experience, to be technically capable to participate and succeed in the training. They must have completed training equivalent to GWO BTT Electrical and GWO CoHE Electrical.

Course Content

The GWO High Voltage Operator Training prepares you to safely operate and support work on high voltage systems through a combination of theoretical and practical instruction. You'll develop the skills needed to work under a documented Safe System of Work (SSOW), gaining essential knowledge in HV safety principles, switching procedures, roles and responsibilities, and risk controls. While this course builds the foundation for safe HV operations, further site-specific training is required before performing HV tasks in the workplace. You’ll cover all key areas required by GWO standards, including:

High Voltage Safety Principles

Roles and Responsibilities

Learn who is allowed to work on high voltage systems and the importance of defined roles during switching operations.
