Essential Information

Prerequisites

Participants: Shall have created a personal profile in WINDA and provided their WINDA ID. Will be medically fit, well-rested & show no signs of fatigue, sickness or substance abuse.

Who is it for?

Personnel who will be working in the wind industry or related fields and will have their duties in a wind turbine environment, usually in physical contact with a wind turbine or WTG structure. Personnel that perform job functions that have been risk assessed by their employer or their workplace duty holder as a function, where training according to one or more modules of the BST standard may mitigate of the identified risks

Assessment

Participant knowledge, skills and abilities should be assessed on an ongoing basis during practical scenario-based exercises, by means of direct observation and verbal questioning. The instructor should use this as a method of formative evaluation to support participants in reaching the module objectives. The instructor shall also utilise direct observation and verbal questioning on an ongoing basis through the training, to determine participant achievement of the required learning objectives in the domains of knowledge, skills and abilities, to support the overall summative evaluation of the module.

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a GWO BST Working at Heights and Manual Handling certificate, valid for two years and recognized worldwide in the wind energy sector.

Course Content

Prerequisites:

Participants must hold valid and in-date GWO Working at Height and Manual Handling certificates. Additionally, a valid WINDA ID is required.

Who is it for?

Assessment:

Participants will undergo both theoretical and practical assessments to evaluate their competence in working at height and manual handling.

Certification:

Upon successful completion, participants receive GWO-approved Working at Height and Manual Handling Combined Refresher certificates, each valid for two years.

Hazards and risks associated with working at height:

Understanding specific dangers in wind turbine environments.

Legislation and behavioural safety:

Reviewing current national and regional regulations and promoting safe work practices.

Personal protective equipment (PPE):

Correct identification, inspection, and use of PPE, including harnesses, helmets, and lanyards.

Rescue procedures:

Executing safe and efficient rescue operations in wind turbine settings.

Manual handling techniques:

Applying safe lifting and movement methods to prevent injuries.

Ergonomic behaviour:

Encouraging positive manual handling practices and planning to minimise risks.

Course Overview

This lesson ensures participants know what to expect and what’s expected of them in the Refresher Course.

Designed for wind turbine environments, the course covers:

Safe use of basic personal protective equipment (PPE)
Working and rescuing at heights in remote locations

By the end, you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to operate safely in challenging conditions.

Blended Course Delivery

Courses with "blended" in the title combine e-learning with practical training at the centre.

E-learning: Delegates complete theory modules online before attending the centre, allowing them to learn at their own pace and convenience.
Practical Training: Hands-on training takes place in person at the centre.

E-learning access is provided around 3 weeks before the practical training date, sent to the email on file. This approach reduces the time spent at the training centre, while maintaining the total learning time.
