The IADC RigPass with Basin United course prepares new and current personnel for safe operations in the oil and gas industry by raising awareness of the hazards present on rigs and the systems designed to control them. It is part of the globally recognised IADC RigPass programme and includes the Basin United modules to further enhance safety culture across the U.S. onshore and offshore sectors.

This course is ideal for anyone entering or currently working in the oil and gas industry, both onshore and offshore. It is particularly suitable for new hires and short-service employees needing safety orientation.
Assessment:
Participants engage in practical activities and exercises throughout the course. There is no formal written assessment.
Certification:
Participants earn an IADC RigPass certificate with Basin United endorsement, recognized industry-wide for site access. No expiration, but refresher training may be needed per employer or site policies.
Workplace safety and human factors
Covers general safety, regulatory requirements, personal conduct, and the impact of human behaviour on workplace safety.
PPE and hazard identification
Teaches correct selection, use, and limitations of PPE, along with how to assess and communicate workplace hazards.
Occupational health and environmental protection
Highlights health risks, employee responsibilities, and managing environmental impacts like spills, waste, and emissions.
Specialised procedures and permits
Introduces lockout/tagout, hot work, confined space entry, working at heights, and safe work authorisation practices.
Fire safety and emergency response
Explains fire classes, extinguisher types, ignition prevention, and evacuation procedures, with demonstrations included.

Scenario 1:
A new hire uses their understanding of hazardous energy to correctly apply lockout/tagout during equipment maintenance.

While on a platform, a technician spots a fire risk and responds using the appropriate extinguisher type and evacuation protocol.

A team member working in a confined space ensures proper permit controls and rescue measures are in place before entry.
