Introduction to IWCF Drilling Well Control Level 2 BL

This course gives personnel involved in drilling and well operations a solid foundation in the principles and practices of well control. It is designed to develop essential awareness of why well control is critical to safe and efficient operations, how barriers are established and maintained, the early warning signs of a loss of control, and the actions required to respond effectively and regain control.

By undertaking the course and the associated IWCF assessment, participants demonstrate that they have achieved the internationally recognised Level 2 standard of competence in well control, providing assurance to employers and regulators that they can contribute safely to well operations.

Be aware that this version of the course is delivered using bar and litre as the standard measurement units.

Essential Information

Prerequisites

No previous well control certificate is required. However, completion of IWCF Level 1 (available free of charge online at the IWCF website) is recommended prior to attending.

Who is it for?

This course is intended for operational personnel whose roles may directly influence well-control assurance — including junior drilling staff, wellsite crew members, and relevant service personnel — who need to monitor operations, recognize early signs of loss of control, report potential issues, and act under guidance. It is also suitable for individuals new to well operations who are building their foundational competence before advancing to supervisory or design roles, as recommended by IOGP Report 476 (Well Control Training – Levels Guidance).
