Introduction to Lifeboat Coxswain - Conventional Lifeboat Refresher
The course refreshes and maintains the practical skills required to perform conventional lifeboat coxswain duties, including preparation, mustering, embarkation, communication, launching, manoeuvring and use of emergency systems and equipment.
Essential information

Prerequisites
Participants must have completed Basic Safety Training and either: Lifeboat Coxswain Basic Course, or Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats in accordance with STCW Table A-VI/2-1. Personnel who have not served in an emergency response role and have not completed emergency response training or equivalent training within the last 5 years must complete the basic course again.

Who is it for?
Personnel who perform lifeboat coxswain duties on conventional lifeboats.

Assessment
Participants are assessed throughout all practical training. If a participant does not successfully complete the practical training, the reason for the assessment outcome will be provided. Participants who do not demonstrate achievement of the required competence objectives will not successfully complete the course.

Certification
Upon successful completion you will receive a certificate valid for 2 years.
Course content
Mustering and Preparation
Preparation of the lifeboat and organisation of personnel prior to evacuation
Embarkation and Evacuation
Leadership of mustering, embarkation and evacuation using the conventional lifeboat.
Communication
Radio and internal communication during lifeboat and emergency response operations.
Launching
Practical launching of the conventional lifeboat from the installation.
Manoeuvring
Practical operation and manoeuvring of the lifeboat to a safe area.
Emergency Systems and Equipment
Use of lifeboat emergency systems and equipment under different operational conditions.
Key Learning Objectives
LO1 - Prepare a conventional lifeboat for evacuation.
LO2 - Organise and lead mustering and embarkation into the lifeboat.
LO3 - Communicate by radio, internally within the lifeboat and with the emergency response organisation.
LO4 - Launch the lifeboat from the installation and navigate it to a safe area.
LO5 - Manoeuvre and operate the lifeboat and manage conditions for persons onboard.
LO6 - Operate emergency systems and equipment appropriate to different conditions onboard the lifeboat.
