This training meets the legal requirement of NR-34, item 34.5.10.1, which requires that the hot work firewatcher receives training delivered by a worker qualified in fire prevention and firefighting (in this course, an Occupational Safety Technician), with the syllabus and minimum duration of 8 hours defined in item 1 of Annex I. The course prepares participants to monitor hot work activities and their surroundings, recognise fire hazards, raise the alarm, use the appropriate firefighting equipment to combat incipient fires and guide the evacuation of the area, ensuring they are legally qualified and operationally able to perform the firewatcher role safely.

LO1 - Explain the fundamentals of fire and combustion, including fuel, oxidiser, heat and fire classification.
LO2 - Relate fire classes A, B, C and D to appropriate extinguishing methods and firefighting equipment.
LO3 - Identify alarm systems, escape routes, muster points, PPE/EPC and Permit to Work requirements applicable to hot work firewatchers.
LO4 - Apply basic fire prevention and firefighting practices during practical activities.
