Introduction to NR 37 Internal Commission for the Prevention of Accidents and Harassment on Platforms

This training prepares elected and appointed CIPLAT members to fully perform their duties on offshore platforms, as established by Regulatory Standards NR-05 and NR-37.8. The course raises awareness of workplace hazards and risks, develops competencies to identify and control occupational risks, and strengthens CIPLAT's role in preventing accidents, occupational diseases and harassment.

Who is it for?

Elected and appointed members of CIPLAT (Internal Commission for the Prevention of Accidents and Harassment on Platforms) working on offshore units, responsible for exercising their duties in accordance with Regulatory Standards NR-05 and NR-37, item 37.8.

Assessment

Written theoretical test, including multiple-choice and true/false questions. Minimum passing score: 70%.

Certification

Upon successful completion, you will receive a Maersk Training certificate valid for 1 year

Course content

Opening – Introduction

Presentation of Maersk Training and the CIPLAT training, participant introductions, overview of training objectives and structure, and completion of the Human Puzzle icebreaker activity.

Module 1: Workplace Conditions; Risks Arising from the Production Process

Covers ergonomics under NR-17, the difference between hazard and risk, and identification of hazards and risks in job activities. Includes a practical risk-classification exercise.

Module 2: Work-related Accidents; Risk Assessment and Control Measures

Covers work-related accident definition, risk map, risk matrix, hierarchy of controls, and NR-06 requirements for PPE and collective protective equipment.

Module 3: Accident Investigation; Safety Inspections

Covers accident investigation methodology, unsafe act and unsafe condition concepts, and types of safety inspections and when to apply them.

Module 4: Occupational Hygiene and Prevention Measures

Covers CIPA’s role in occupational hygiene, NR-24 sanitary and comfort conditions, and a case study on a food poisoning outbreak on an offshore platform.

Module 5: Occupational Safety and Health Legislation; Complementary Standards

Covers the history and origin of CIPA in Brazil and complementary standards, including NR-05, NR-06, NR-17, NR-24 and NR-37.

Module 6: Inclusion of People with Disabilities and Rehabilitated Workers

Covers workplace barriers that hinder inclusion and CIPA strategies to support people with disabilities and rehabilitated workers.

Module 7: Objectives and Application of NR-05 / NR-37.8 – CIPLAT

Covers NR-05 and NR-37 objectives and application, CIPLAT requirements, CIPA attributions, constitution, election, operation, training, contracted companies and final provisions.

Module 8: Prevention and Combating of Sexual Harassment and Other Forms of Workplace Violence

Covers Law 14457, employer obligations, prevention policies, reporting procedures, awareness training, and CIPA responsibilities in policy application and case follow-up.

Assessment

Written theoretical test, including multiple-choice and true/false questions. Minimum passing score: 70%.

Test Review / Q&A

Review and correction of the test with participants, followed by clarification of questions related to the training content.

Key Learning Objectives

LO1 - Recognize the fundamentals of ergonomics (NR-17), differentiate between hazard and risk, and identify hazards and risks in day-to-day work activities.

LO2 - Understand the legal definition of a work-related accident (Law 8,213/91, Art. 19), interpret the Risk Map and Risk Matrix, and describe the Hierarchy of Control Measures, including PPE/PPE requirements under NR-06.

LO3 - Recognize possible causes of work accidents, differentiate unsafe acts from unsafe conditions, and describe the types of safety inspections and when to apply them.

LO4 - Describe CIPA's role in occupational hygiene and list the sanitary and comfort conditions required at the workplace under NR-24.

LO5 - Understand the historical background of CIPA in Brazil and the complementary regulatory standards (NR-05, NR-06, NR-17, NR-24, NR-37) that support the topics covered.

LO6 - Memorize the types of barriers to inclusion of people with disabilities and describe strategies CIPA can apply to support inclusion.

LO7 - Understand NR-05 and NR-37.8, including objectives, CIPA's attributions, the election process, and the constitution and operation of CIPLAT on offshore platforms.

LO8 - Understand CIPA's additional responsibility, under Article 23 of Law 14,457, to prevent and combat sexual harassment and other forms of workplace violence.
