How is this course different from the Offshore Fire Team Member Refresher?

The Fire Team Member Refresher focuses on individual firefighting skills, smoke diving, and BA use. This course is for those with the appointed command responsibility for leading the fire team. It develops situational leadership, team management, and tactical coordination, not just individual competence.

How long is the course?

The course runs over two days, totalling approximately 13.5 hours of instruction including both classroom and practical sessions.

How many participants are in each session?

Sessions run with a minimum of four and a maximum of ten participants. Theory sessions run at a ratio of 1 instructor to 10 participants; practical sessions at 2 instructors to 10 participants.

You will need valid photographic identification, your current Fire Team Member or Fire Team Leader certificate, and a medical certificate inclusive of smoke diving clearance. All firefighting equipment and training materials are provided by Maersk Training.

Purpose

Leading a fire team on an offshore installation demands more than knowing what to do. It demands the ability to assess a rapidly developing situation, assign resources under pressure, and make command decisions that keep people safe. This two-day refresher course gives appointed Fire Team Leaders the opportunity to practise and demonstrate exactly those skills in simulated emergency scenarios. Grounded in the command framework of STCW A-VI/3 and aligned with Danish regulatory requirements, it sharpens situational leadership, communication, and tactical decision-making in conditions that reflect the real demands of the role.

The course content is closely linked to the requirements and taxonomy described in STCW A-VI/3 (2010) and BEK nr. 1466 af 08/12/2015.

Assessment

Delegates will be assessed against the learning outcomes specified in BEK nr 1466 af 08/12/2015 § 12 this lesson plan using direct observation.
