This course is designed for new entrants to the offshore oil and gas industry and other personnel requiring basic safety induction and emergency response training.

What are the prerequisites for this course?

To participate in practical exercises, learners must meet one of the following requirements: Hold a valid, current offshore medical certificate, or Possess a company-approved medical certificate recognised as equivalent to an offshore medical certificate, or Complete medical screening using a form provided by the OPITO-approved centre. This ensures all participants are medically fit and prepared for safe, effective training.

The course is delivered through a mix of theoretical lessons, practical exercises, and realistic simulations at selected training centres.

Purpose of BOSIET with CA-EBS – Digital

The OPITO Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training (BOSIET) with CA-EBS – Digital Delivery is designed to provide new entrants to the offshore oil and gas industry with the essential safety knowledge and skills required to work safely in offshore environments. This version of the BOSIET course offers the flexibility of blended learning, allowing participants to complete the theoretical components online before attending practical sessions on-site.

Who is it for?

This course is ideal for:

New entrants to the offshore oil and gas industry.
Offshore personnel who require basic safety induction and emergency response training.

Assessment Type

To complete the Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) with Emergency Breathing System (EBS) Training, learners must successfully complete four mandatory units.

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants will receive the OPITO BOSIET certificate. The maximum interval between the successful completion of BOSIET (with EBS) training and subsequent completion of FOET (with EBS) training is 4 years.

The course covers the following key areas:

Offshore Safety Induction

Introduction to offshore safety regulations, procedures, and industry-specific safety protocols.

Helicopter Safety and Escape

Given that helicopter transportation is common in the offshore industry, BOSIET includes training on helicopter safety and emergency escape procedures. This includes training in the use of helicopter underwater escape training (HUET) simulators to practice escaping from a helicopter submerged underwater.

Sea Survival

In this vital component, participants learn essential survival skills for offshore scenarios. This includes techniques for boarding life rafts, using life jackets, deploying survival suits, and understanding the importance of teamwork during sea survival situations.

Firefighting and Self-Rescue

Practical firefighting exercises and self-rescue techniques for escaping smoke-filled environments.

First Aid and CPR

Basic first aid skills, including CPR, wound management, and treating minor injuries.

Practical Simulation Exercises

Realistic scenarios to reinforce emergency response skills in a controlled, safe environment.

Digital delivery

The theoretical part of the OPITO BOSIET (Incl. CA-EBS) – Digital delivery will be delivered online via a link provided after signing up for a class. The average duration of the e-learning is 07-10 hours. The theoretical e-learning can be done up to 3 months prior to attending the practical day.

The practical part of the OPITO BOSIET (Incl. CA-EBS) – Digital delivery has a duration of 1 day. Please note an examination on the theory will performed upon arrival for the practical part. This examination must be passed in order to continue on the course.
