Introduction to OPITO Command and Control for ERRV Masters and Mates
The aim and objectives of the Command and Control program is to equip the learner with the initial knowledge, understanding and skills required when performing in the role of ERRV Master or Mate during an offshore incident.

Assessment
This training includes an assessment, and after receiving explanations and demonstrations identifying what learners are expected to know and do, they will be given practical exercises to demonstrate their skills, knowledge and understanding of their emergency response role. Each learner will role-play the Master in at least two emergency scenario simulations such as the following: Helicopter ditching, Fire and/or explosion, Single MOB, Multiple MOB, Vessel collision avoidance with the installation, Abandonment of the installation. Each learner will be formally assessed against the OPITO learning outcomes during these simulations. The assessment must be completed with satisfactory result to complete the training. All learners will be fully briefed and debriefed about each exercise to ensure its effective conduct and to maximize the benefit derived from it.

Certification
Upon successful completion, participants receive OPITO certification for Command & Control in ERRV operations, valid for three years.
Course content
Prerequisites:
Participants must have Deck Officer qualifications as per Flag State requirements and hold an OPITO Initial Training Shipboard Operations certificate or equivalent.
Who is it for?
This course is intended for ERRV Masters and Mates responsible for command and control during offshore emergency response operations.

Theory of Command and Control in ERRV Operations:
Understanding the role and responsibilities of the ERRV, including applicable legislation and the importance of drills and the Ongoing On-Board Development and Training Program (OODTP).
Stress Recognition and Leadership in Emergencies:
Training in recognising stress in oneself and others, and the importance of effective leadership during emergencies.
Use of Resources and Vigilance:
Ensuring readiness by utilising available resources and maintaining constant vigilance aboard the ERRV.
Information Management and Decision-Making:
Techniques for managing information in emergencies, setting priorities, and taking decisive actions.
Communication and Coordination:
Skills in relaying information efficiently, keeping rescue agencies informed, and coordinating with other rescue and support units.
Practical Simulations Using Full-Mission Bridge Simulator:
Engaging in realistic scenarios, such as helicopter ditching, vessel collision, fire, and abandonment, with graded exercises to build competence in emergency responses.
