Introduction to Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR) (STCW A-VI/1-4)

The Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities e-learning, approved by the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA), complies with the requirements in the STCW Convention, Code, Part A, Section A-VI/1, paragraph 2, table A-VI/1-4, as amended. It covers the new competence in STCW Code table A VI/1 4 which requires all seafarers to contribute to the prevention of, and response to, violence and harassment, including sexual harassment, bullying and sexual assault.

The course comprises 6 modules (approximately 125' duration)  and an end of course assessment:

Course Content

Prerequisites

No prior experience is required.

Who is it for?

Seafarers and Industrial Personnel (IP) engaged in offshore activities, including those working with wind turbines and offshore facilities.

Assessment:

End-of-module quizzes and interactive assessments.

Maritime Pollution

The text outlines key topics on marine pollution: sources caused by humans, effects, MARPOL content, SOPEP purpose, garbage and waste requirements, engine room and oil tank waste control, Oil Record Book, special area rules, and Annex VI regulations.

The Human Factor

Maintain good human relations and a positive work environment on board. Follow rules on alcohol and drugs, understand fatigue effects, and adhere to ILO rest time requirements. Recognize factors affecting rest and effective management on land and sea.

Prevention and Response to Violence and Harassment Onboard

Contribute to the prevention of, and response to, violence and harassment, including sexual harassment, bullying and sexual assault.

From the 1st of January 2026, amendments adopted under the IMO Resolution MSC.560(108) came into effect, introducing additional competence elements within the STCW Convention, Table A-VI/1-4 Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR).
