Purpose of Stability 1 (theory)
The Stability Theory (Stability 1) Course is tailored for offshore personnel with no prior formal stability training, providing the essential skills and knowledge required to meet international regulations for ballast control operations. This course complies with the IMO requirement A1079(28) for the selection and training of Ballast Control Operators and is recognised by the UK, Canada, US Coast Guard (USCG), and the International Maritime Organization (IMO). It is ideal for Mobile Offshore Unit (MOU) personnel involved in stability calculations, including those working on self-elevating platforms (Jack-Ups).

Delegates will be required to pass a written examination prior to the issue of a certificate.

Certification
The certificate complies with the IMO requirement A1079(28) for the selection and training of Ballast Control Operators. This certificate will comply with regulations in the United Kingdom and Canada; US Coast Guard (USCG) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

States of Equilibrium

Initial Stability
Understand the concept of initial stability, including the role of the metacentric height (GM). Study the relationship between the centre of gravity, buoyancy, and stability, and how to manage these elements in practice.
Longitudinal and Transverse Stability
Analyze how longitudinal and transverse stability affect vessel movement and safety. Learn to calculate stability under different loading conditions and during ballast adjustments.
Hydrostatics
Apply hydrostatic principles to perform essential stability calculations. Use hydrostatic data to evaluate stability curves, righting moments, and other stability indicators.
