Introduction
The course develops the competence required to launch, recover, operate and take charge of a fast rescue boat during emergency and rescue operations.
Who is it for
Seafarers assigned to operate, launch, recover or take charge of a fast rescue boat on board a ship.
Prerequisite
Participants must hold a valid STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats. They must also meet the applicable medical and physical fitness requirements for practical training.
Assessment
Theoretical assessment and practical demonstration of launching, recovery, boat handling, engine operation, capsize recovery, search patterns and casualty rescue.
Certification
Upon successful completion, you will receive a STCW A-VI/2-2 Fast Rescue Boat certificate accredited by the Danish Maritime Authority, valid for five years.
Course content
- Construction and Equipment: Construction, outfitting, equipment, buoyancy compartments, routine maintenance and emergency repairs.
- Launching Appliances: Readiness checks and operation of winches, brakes, falls, painters, motion-compensation systems and related equipment.
- Launching and Recovery: Safe preparation, launching and recovery in prevailing and adverse weather and sea conditions.
- Boat Handling: Characteristics, limitations and handling of fast rescue boats in prevailing and adverse conditions.
- Capsize and Survival: Capsize prevention, righting procedures and swimming while wearing specialist protective equipment.
- Search and Rescue: Search patterns, environmental factors, casualty recovery and transfer to a ship, helicopter or place of safety.
- Communication and Emergency Equipment: Use of navigational, safety, communication, signalling and emergency equipment carried onboard.
- Engine Operation: Starting, operating and monitoring the fast rescue boat engine and its accessories.
