Introduction to STCW Advanced Safety Training for Maritime Officers
The course provides participants with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to perform advanced safety and emergency response duties as ship officers, in accordance with STCW Tables A-VI/2-1, A-VI/3 and A-VI/4-1.
Essential information

Prerequisites
Participants must hold a valid Certificate of Proficiency in Basic Safety Training or have previously completed Basic Safety Training for Seafarers. If the competence has expired, participants must document at least 12 months of sea service within the 5 years preceding the course start date.

Who is it for?
Personnel undertaking advanced safety training as part of their qualification as ship officers.

Assessment
Participants must pass a written test with a minimum score of 80%. The written assessment is designed so that the 80% pass mark meets the Norwegian Maritime Authority requirement for full achievement of the required competence. All required practical exercises must be completed. Participants are observed individually by the instructor during practical exercises. The instructor assesses whether the participant demonstrates the required knowledge, understanding and practical skills in accordance with the applicable minimum competence standards.

Certification
Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate valid for 5 years.
Course content
Survival Craft Operations
Taking charge of survival craft or rescue boats during and after launching.
Engine Operation
Operation of survival craft engines.
Survivor Management
Management of survivors and survival craft following abandonment of the vessel.
Locating and Signalling Equipment
Use of locating devices, communication equipment, light signals and smoke signals.
First Aid to Survivors
Provision of first aid to survivors during and after rescue operations.
Firefighting Leadership
Leadership and coordination of firefighting operations onboard ship
Fire Team Management
Organisation and training of fire parties.
Fire Equipment Maintenance
Inspection and maintenance of fire detection and firefighting systems and equipment.
Fire Incident Investigation
Investigation of fire-related incidents and preparation of reports.
Medical First Aid
Immediate medical first aid in cases of accident or illness onboard.
