Introduction to STCW Advanced Safety Training Refresher for Engine Officers
The course refreshes and maintains the advanced safety competencies required for engine officers, covering survival craft and rescue boats, advanced firefighting and medical first aid.
The training covers the competence requirements of STCW Tables A-VI/2-1, A-VI/3 and A-VI/4-1

Prerequisites
Participants must have previously completed and passed advanced safety training in accordance with: STCW Regulation VI/2, paragraph 1 STCW Regulation VI/3 STCW Regulation VI/4, paragraph 1 This must be documented by a valid Certificate of Competency as a deck, engine or electro-technical officer, or by a valid Advanced Safety Training course certificate. If the competence has expired, participants must document at least 12 months of sea service while holding a valid course certificate or officer certificate. The sea service is calculated within the 5 years preceding the course start date.

Who is it for?
Engine officers who require refresher training in advanced safety.

Assessment
Participants must pass a written test with a minimum score of 80%. The written assessment is designed so that the 80% pass mark meets the Norwegian Maritime Authority requirement for full achievement of the required competence. All required practical exercises must be completed. Participants are observed individually by the instructor during practical exercises. The instructor assesses whether the participant demonstrates the required knowledge, understanding and practical skills in accordance with the applicable minimum competence standards.

Certification
Upon successful completion you will receive a certificate valid for 5 years covering the following competencies: STCW Table A-VI/2-1 – Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Other Than Fast Rescue Boats STCW Table A-VI/3 – Advanced Fire Fighting STCW Table A-VI/4-1 – Medical First Aid
Course content
Survival Craft Operations
Taking charge of survival craft or rescue boats during and after launching.
Survival Craft Engine
Operation of the engine fitted to a survival craft.
Survivor Management
Management of survivors and survival craft following abandonment of the vessel.
Locating and Signalling Equipment
Use of locating devices, communication equipment, light signals and smoke signals.
First Aid to Survivors
Immediate first aid provided to survivors following an emergency or abandonment.
Firefighting Leadership
Leadership and coordination of firefighting operations onboard ship
Fire Team Management
Organisation and training of fire parties.
Fire Equipment Maintenance
Inspection and maintenance of fire detection and firefighting systems and equipment.
Fire Incident Investigation
Investigation of fire-related incidents and preparation of reports.
Medical First Aid
Immediate medical first aid in cases of accident or illness onboard.
