STCW Basic safety training for Seafarers Refresher

Participants must hold a valid certificate of proficiency for Basic Safety Training or have previously completed Basic Safety Training for Seafarers. The certificate of proficiency must have been issued in accordance with STCW 1978, Regulation VI/1 and the associated competence tables. If the competence has expired, participants must document at least 12 months of sea service within the 5 years preceding the start date of the refresher course.

Seafarers who require mandatory refresher training for STCW Basic Safety Training. This course is the minimum safety training requirement for seafarers serving onboard vessels, regardless of position or function.

Participants must pass a written test with a minimum score of 80%. The written assessment is designed so that the 80% pass mark meets the Norwegian Maritime Authority requirement for full achievement of the required competence. All required practical exercises must be completed. Participants are observed individually by the instructor during practical exercises. The instructor assesses whether the participant demonstrates the required knowledge, understanding and practical skills in accordance with the applicable minimum competence standards.

Upon successful completion participants will receive a certificate valid for 5 years
