Introduction to STCW Basic Safety Training for Smaller Ships
The course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to maintain the safety of the vessel and crew during normal operations and emergency situations onboard smaller vessels.

Who is it for?
Seafarers who will work onboard vessels under 24 metres in length operating in small coastal trade.

Assessment
Participants must pass a written test with a minimum score of 80%. The written assessment is designed so that the 80% pass mark meets the Norwegian Maritime Authority requirement for full achievement of the required competence. All required practical exercises must be completed. Participants are observed individually by the instructor during practical exercises. The instructor assesses whether the participant demonstrates the required knowledge, understanding and practical skills in accordance with the applicable minimum competence standards.

Upon successful completion you will receive certification valid to 5 years

Emergency Situations
Recognition of emergency situations and appropriate actions to protect the vessel and crew.
Evacuation
Emergency evacuation procedures and actions during abandonment of the vessel.
Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
Purpose and use of survival craft and rescue boats during emergency situations.
Personal Lifesaving Equipment
Use of personal lifesaving appliances and equipment.
Sea Survival
Personal survival techniques and actions required to survive in the water.
Fire Prevention
Measures to minimise fire risks and maintain readiness to respond to an incipient fire.
Firefighting Equipment
Practical use of portable fire extinguishers and relevant firefighting equipment.
First Aid
General first aid principles and immediate response to injury or illness onboard.
Burns and Scalds
First aid treatment for burns and scalding injuries.
Personal Safety
Personal safety responsibilities and safe behaviour onboard.
