Introduction to STCW Basic Safety Training for Smaller Ships Refresher
The course refreshes and maintains the knowledge and practical skills required to support the safety of the vessel and crew during emergency situations onboard vessels under 24 metres operating in small coastal trade.

Prerequisites
Participants must have completed Safety Training for Smaller Vessels. The prerequisite requirements depend on the selected delivery option: Face to Face Delivery: No additional pre-course learning. Blended Delivery: Participants must complete the required e-learning before attending the course. A link to the required e-learning will be provided before attendance.

Who is it for?
Seafarers who require refresher training for work onboard vessels under 24 metres operating in small coastal trade.

Assessment
Participants must pass a written test with a minimum score of 80%. The written assessment is designed so that the 80% pass mark meets the Norwegian Maritime Authority requirement for full achievement of the required competence. All required practical exercises must be completed. Participants are observed individually by the instructor during practical exercises. The instructor assesses whether the participant demonstrates the required knowledge, understanding and practical skills in accordance with the applicable minimum competence standards.

Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate valid for 5 years

Emergencies and Evacuation
Emergency situations, evacuation procedures and appropriate actions during onboard emergencies.
Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
Use and purpose of survival craft and rescue boats during emergency situations.
Personal Lifesaving Equipment
Use of personal lifesaving appliances and equipment onboard.
Sea Survival
Practical techniques for survival in the water.
Fire Prevention
Measures to minimise fire risks and maintain readiness to respond to developing fires.
Firefighting Equipment
Practical use of fire extinguishers and other relevant firefighting equipment.
First Aid
General first aid principles and immediate response to injury or illness onboard.
Burns and Scalds
Recognition and first aid treatment of burns and scalds.
Personal Safety
Personal safety responsibilities and safe behaviour onboard.

LO1 - Apply appropriate actions during emergency and evacuation situations onboard.
