Introduction to STCW Medical Care
The course provides participants with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to take responsibility for medical care onboard ship and to demonstrate competence in accordance with STCW Table A-VI/4-2.

Prerequisites
Participants must have successfully completed Medical First Aid in accordance with STCW Table A-VI/4-1.

Who is it for?
Seafarers who are designated to take responsibility for medical care onboard ship.

Assessment
Participants must pass a written test with a minimum score of 80%. The written assessment is designed so that the 80% pass mark meets the Norwegian Maritime Authority requirement for full achievement of the required competence. All required practical exercises must be completed. Participants are observed individually by the instructor during practical exercises. The instructor assesses whether the participant demonstrates the required knowledge, understanding and skills in accordance with the applicable minimum competence standards.

Certification
Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate in accordance with STCW Table A-VI/4-1, valid for 5 years.

Life-Saving First Aid and Medical Care
Life-saving first aid and medical treatment of sick or injured persons onboard.
General Nursing
General nursing principles and practical patient care onboard ship.
Illness and Disease
Recognition and management of illnesses and medical conditions.
Medicines and Medical Equipment
Appropriate use of medicines and medical equipment available onboard.
Intravenous Fluid Therapy
Principles and practical application of intravenous fluid therapy.
Practical Medical Care
Practical exercises in the assessment, treatment and care of patients onboard.
