Introduction to STCW Ship Security Officer (SSO)

This flag state approved e-learning course (approved by Danish Maritime Authority (DMA)) fulfils the minimum requirements in the STCW Code Part A, chapter VI/5 for the issue of certificates of proficiency for ship security officers. The content of this course follows, and is in accordance with, the IMO Model course 3.19.

The course contains 10 modules:

The overall objectives of this course are to provide knowledge on: The International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) Threats to maritime security Competences required of an appointed Ship Security Officer, which include: Threats to maritime security Awareness of policies and circulars as a foundation for maritime security Ensuring security equipment is properly maintained, calibrated and correctly operated Carrying out regular security inspections and assessments on board Maintaining and modifying the Ship Security Plan (SSP) Supporting the implementation of the SSP with Company Security Officer (CSO) and Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) Reporting to the CSO any deficiencies, non-conformities identified. and security incidents Training of crew and enhancing security awareness on board
