The course is designed for offshore personnel who are required to use handheld VHF radios as part of their work. It is relevant to personnel working across wind energy, oil and gas, and maritime operations.

The course covers the essentials of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System and its role as a globally accepted approach to maritime safety communication.
Participants become familiar with communication equipment commonly used across maritime and offshore environments.
Practical exercises give participants experience in operating and handling handheld VHF radios for clear and reliable communication.
Participants learn how to use recognised pro-words to keep radio exchanges concise, clear and structured.
Participants practise using the phonetic alphabet to communicate letters, names and other important information accurately.
The course is open to personnel working in offshore sectors, including wind energy, oil and gas, and maritime. No additional prerequisites have been specified.
Participants are evaluated through practical exercises and theoretical assessments. The assessment confirms their ability to handle VHF equipment and communicate safely and effectively in an offshore environment.
Participants who successfully complete the course receive certification confirming their VHF communication competency for offshore environments.
