Human Factors & Performance

Human Factors & Performance

Most incidents don't start with a technical failure. They start with a decision, a conversation or a moment of attention. We build those moments into every course we run.

Where technical training meets human performance

Technical competence keeps operations running. Human performance keeps them safe. At Maersk Training, we integrate human factors – crew resource management, situational awareness, communication, decision-making, stress and fatigue – directly into technical scenarios on our simulators. Participants don't attend a separate soft-skills day. They experience those factors in the bridge, in the driller's cabin, on the deck, where the learning has to transfer.

Our approach

How we build human factors into every course: integrated, evidence-based, and psychologically safe.

Integrated, not bolted on

Non-technical skills can occupy 30-40% of a technical course at Maersk Training, woven into the simulator scenarios themselves.

Built on the Basic-Six (HF6) framework

A shared language for communication, situational awareness, decision-making, teamwork, leadership and stress / fatigue management.

Psychologically safe by design

Participants can fail, reflect and try again. Instructors use behavioural markers rather than pass/fail grades where appropriate.

Debriefing as the core teaching tool

Structured video, data and observation-based debriefs where the real learning happens.

A team of specialists

Psychologists, former master mariners, armed-forces leaders and drilling supervisors working together on the same programmes.
