Maersk Training strengthens Malaysian presence with new Kuala Lumpur training site through Velesto Energy Academy partnership

Maersk Training is strengthening its footprint in Malaysia with the opening of a new training site in Kuala Lumpur through Velesto Energy Academy, Powered by Maersk Training. The facility will support local and regional operators, drilling contractors, and service companies with advanced simulation based and accredited training.

The site features state-of-the-art learning spaces and classrooms, an advanced immersive drilling simulator (DS-6000) and a full Major Emergency Management (MEM) suite. These installations will give crews access to realistic, high-pressure environments that mirror operational conditions, helping organisations build stronger capability, safety performance, and decision making.

All programmes will be aligned for approval by HRD Corp, ensuring courses are claimable for local employers.

We support contractors through customised simulator-based training that strengthens drill crew capability – enhancing safety, efficiency, and overall operational performance. In 2025 alone, more than 100 IWCF Well Intervention Pressure Control candidates were trained locally, supported by dedicated in-country instruction.

Programmes leading the Malaysian portfolio include:

• IWCF Drilling Well Control and Well Intervention Pressure Control

• Jacking and Rig Move training through cloud-based simulation

• Advanced drilling simulation programmes covering MPD, DWOS and Stuck Pipe Prevention

• Well Engineering

• Major Emergency Management Initial Response and emergency management training

• Onboard HSE and leadership coaching

• Safety behavioural programmes

Being listed as an HRD Corp-approved provider allows Malaysian employers to claim levy funds for accredited technical and leadership training. This reduces cost barriers and strengthens access to international-standard programmes delivered locally.
