Online Maritime English Test for Junior Engine Officers
The Maritime English Test for Junior Engine Officers is designed to assess candidates’ English language competence between the levels of ‘Lower Intermediate’ and ‘Intermediate’ (CEFR (Europe): B1 to B2 and ILR (United States): Level 1+ to 2+). A candidate at these levels will be able to understand and produce frequently used expressions relating to areas of most immediate relevance to the function of a Junior Engine Officer onboard a ship.
"The Maritime English Test for Junior Engine Officers, approved by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), is designed to assist Ship Operators and employers make recruiting and training decisions by assessing the English language understanding and skills of crew at a Junior Engine Officer position. The Test is designed around the approved guidelines for Maritime English developed by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and are combined with internationally recognised methods for English language testing to form a rigorous and accurate testing system for use in the maritime sector. Delegates will first receive an explanation of the Tests, then take part in a short sample test to demonstrate how it works. They will then take part in the actual timed Official Maritime English Test and receive a final score and certificate upon successful completion.

On completion of this course the participant will be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of resource management, leadership and teamwork to fulfil the requirements of STCW 2010, Sections A-III/1 and A-III/2:
Knowledge of shipboard personnel management, including human error, cross cultural awareness, situational awareness, complacency and teamwork.
Ability to apply task and workload management.
Knowledge of and ability to apply effective resource management.
Knowledge of and ability to apply decision making techniques.
Knowledge of international maritime conventions, recommendations and national legislations.
The course is verified by the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA).
