OPITO OIM Controlling Emergencies
Major emergencies arise usually with little or no warning and can threaten injury, death or serious damage to personnel, property or the environment. Having the knowledge and skillset to react and deal with a major emergency situation efficiency, coordinated and in a safely manner can minimize the size of the emergency and save the lives of colleagues.
The course participants will be directly observed by a team of assessors during practical scenarios and are judged on their performance as OIM in controlling emergencies under simulated conditions according to the OPITO Standard. A minimum of 3 and maximum of 4 emergency practical and realistic scenarios based around a major incident i.e. well control incident, explosion and fire, helicopter incident etc. take place to ensure standard of performance are covered. The course participants’ performance will be assessed based on their ability to:
Maintain a state of readiness
Assess situation and take effective action
Maintain communications
Delegate authority to act
Manage Individual and team performance
Deal with stress in self and other
OPITO OIM Controlling Emergencies assessment programme is designed to assess the individual’s ability to manage and control a major emergency as the Emergency Manager in accordance with the OPITO Standard.
