Meet Tanya, Maersk Training in the UK’s new Lead Medical Instructor

In Tanya’s new role as Lead Medical Instructor, she will be responsible for maintaining and developing all medical and first aid courses within MTUK.  She will be based out of our site in Portlethen but will deliver courses across all UK sites when required.

Tanya is a qualified combat medical technician and has served as a reservist in the British Army for over 12 years and is currently serving with the 225 Medical Regiment in Dundee.  She has just left a full-time position in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, where she served as an operational firefighter for over three years and was part of the rope rescue team based in Aberdeen.

As part of her Rope Rescue role, Tanya took part in numerous rope rescues and training events, including one incident which saw her conduct a stretcher rescue over the walls of Edinburgh Castle.

We asked Tanya how she felt about joining the Maersk Training family, have a read of what she said below:

“T.S Elliot said, “Every moment is a fresh beginning”, and changing career in my ‘late 20’s‘ firefighting mother and partner is certainly a new beginning.

It’s exciting times ahead as I draw on my military & firefighting first aid experience to join Maersk Training UK as the Lead Medical Instructor.

The experience I’ve gained throughout the years will undoubtedly aid in developing and maintaining the medical courses we currently teach. In the future, I aim to develop more bespoke courses that combine first aid, trauma and technical rescues to expand the range of offerings for our clients.

As Hellen Keller once said, “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing”…
